Leicester City have been knocked out of the 2025/26 Carabao Cup after a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield Town, with Ghana captain Jordan Ayew missing his spot-kick in the decisive stages.
The tie at the John Smith’s Stadium ended 2-2 in regulation time, but Ayew’s miss at the Foxes first in the shootout — proved costly as Huddersfield held their nerve to advance.
Leicester, fresh from a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in their EFL Championship opener, twice surrendered the lead during the match.
Ayew, renowned for his penalty-taking ability, was introduced in the 82nd minute for Patson Daka and featured for just nine minutes before the shootout.
In his brief cameo, the 32-year-old forward registered six touches, completed three of four passes, and sent one effort off target.
Meanwhile, fellow Ghana international, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, was an unused substitute for the Foxes.
